About the museum

The museum occupies the former primary school of the hamlet of Ligugnana, in San Vito al Tagliamento, and is named after General Umberto Romei. It grew out of a private collection of military finds and relics assembled by Pio Langella, a reserve general and regional president of the National Association of Bersaglieri, who is today its president.

The display is spread over two floors and tells local and national history from the Garibaldian campaigns to the years after the Second World War. On the ground floor are the rooms devoted to the First World War and the Fascist ventennio (twenty-year regime); upstairs one room is reserved for the Second World War, and two rooms house the relics of the Osoppo and Garibaldi partisan brigades.

Uniforms, documents, historical photographs and other objects of the 20th century are displayed; at the end of the route, period films can be watched. The museum also holds historical re-enactments to promote culture and collective memory.
