About the museum
The Occitan museum Sòn de Lenga is the experiential museum of the association Espaci Occitan in Dronero, in the Valle Maira. Recently renovated, it presents itself as a showcase of Occitan culture, an interpretation centre for the territory and a starting point for visiting the Occitan-speaking valleys.
The update project was carried out by the Comunità Montana Valli Grana e Maira with a contribution from the Piedmont Region. The route, halfway between a “time machine” and a journey through Occitania, uses computer stations with images, sounds and films to tell the story of geography, history, literature, traditional music and the melody of the langue d'oc, together with aspects of the material, folk and social life of the Occitan valleys of Piedmont.
The space is open to tourists and enthusiasts, to students of all levels with educational visits, and to university students. The museum is part of the “Nati con la cultura” network for family-friendly museums and has an Occitan shop.
