About the museum
MU.SP.A.C. was founded in 1993 by the cultural association Centro Multimediale “Quarto di Santa Giusta”, active since 1984 and linked to the avant-gardes and neo-avant-gardes of the twentieth century. The collection grew out of loans from the private collection of Enrico Sconci, a lecturer at the Accademia di Belle Arti dell'Aquila, and from many donations by artists, colleagues and former students.
In 1995 the museum moved into the former monastery of Santa Maria dei Raccomandati and, in 1998, into the Palazzo Baroncelli Cappa in via Paganica. The earthquake of 6 April 2009 made the building unusable and damaged some works; since then the museum has had a temporary home in via Ficara, in the area known as Piazza d'Arti.
The permanent collection includes works by internationally renowned artists such as Joseph Beuys, Mario Ceroli, Christo, Gino De Dominicis, Jannis Kounellis, Mario Merz, Giulio Paolini and Michelangelo Pistoletto, to which donations received after the earthquake have been added.
