About the museum
The museum was inaugurated on 12 January 2006 by the Grand Master Fra' Andrew Bertie and is housed at the headquarters of the Military Corps, in the Artale barracks within the Cecchignola military city. It tells the story of the Military Corps of the Associazione dei Cavalieri Italiani del Sovrano Militare Ordine di Malta, from its foundation in 1877, through the two World Wars, to the network of hospitals after the war.
The route is divided into three rooms. The first traces the origins of the Corps, the Calabria-Sicily earthquake of 1908, the Italo-Turkish War of 1911–12 and the First World War. The second includes the uniform regulations of 1935 and the flag of the first-aid post at Lviv on the Russian front. The third is dedicated to the Corps' two hospitals, in Rome and Naples, to the post-war period and to humanitarian work.
The collection includes eight flags, thirteen historical uniforms, seventy-five headgear items, as well as documents, photographs, weapons and historical reconstructions.
