About the museum
The Museo Storico opened on 10 February 2022 to mark the centenary of the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise, established in 1922. It is housed in the former stables of Palazzo Sipari in Pescasseroli, the residence of Erminio Sipari, the park's first president, and the birthplace of his cousin, the philosopher Benedetto Croce.
The route traces the idea that led to the creation of the protected area and the events that shaped its history: from the first attempts at establishment in the nineteenth century, through the abolition of the park body in 1933 and its re-establishment in the 1950s, up to the present day. The story is told through some thirty panels and a number of exhibits, organised in eight chapters linked to historical periods and to characteristic elements of the park.
