About the museum
The museum is located in the Perugina factory in the industrial district of San Sisto, on the southern outskirts of Perugia, next to the Mediateca Sandro Penna. It tells the story of the company, founded in 1907, and of Italians’ relationship with chocolate.
The visit begins with a short introductory video and continues with a gallery of materials from the Archivio Storico Buitoni Perugina: images, packaging, films and the advertising films known as “caroselli”. One section is devoted to cocoa, from ancient processing techniques to modern production. Particular attention is paid to the Bacio Perugina, created in 1922 on an idea by Luisa Spagnoli and accompanied by the famous slips of paper with sayings.
The route also offers a view from above of the machinery and of work in the factory, when production allows, and ends with a tasting and a passage through the shop. Courses with a master chocolatier are available on request.
