About the museum
The museum's first nucleus dates from 1973, on the initiative of the partisan Luigi Castignola, and collected testimonies and materials from the struggle for liberation in the area of Neviano degli Arduini. In 1983 the municipality acquired the historical collection, which later found a home in the present building: the site in the locality of Sasso, set up in a former granary of a farmhouse, was inaugurated with a new display on 24 April 2005.
In 2012 a thematic library was launched and a plaque was dedicated to Salvatore Maneschi, the first person after whom the museum was named. In 2014 a general renewal updated the exhibition. The logo “07.44” outside commemorates the massacre carried out in the area between 30 June and the first days of July 1944.
The route presents educational panels on the context of the Resistance, with weapons and uniforms; the massacre room (Sala dell'eccidio) with video projections; a room devoted to deportation to German labour camps; and a final room with the documentary “Luglio '44” and multimedia stations for the photo archive. One section holds books, articles and memoirs on the Resistance.
