About the museum
The collection was founded on 24 July 2010 through a multi-year collaboration between the municipal administration of Neviano degli Arduini and private citizens, and it is the only contemporary art museum in the Parma Apennines. Since 2012 it has been run by the Associazione MUSE. It is housed largely in the premises of the former primary school of Sella di Lodrignano, where an exhibition on Tono Zancanaro was held in 2008, which led to the donation of five lithographs that formed the first core of the collection.
Today the collection numbers over one hundred works by 20th- and 21st-century artists, including Arturo Carmassi, Ennio Finzi, Emilio Scanavino, Concetto Pozzati, Pirro Cuniberti, Renato Guttuso, Quinto Ghermandi and Carlo Corsi, as well as works by emerging artists chosen by the curators. Among the important acquisitions are the donation by Piero Gauli, a member of the “Corrente” movement, and the “Donazione Vasco e Marcella Bendini” of 2011, with 37 works by the master from Bologna.
The route occupies the raised ground floor and the first floor, while a library of contemporary art, opened in 2012, allows visitors to explore the themes of the rooms in greater depth. The museum organises meetings with artists, guided tours and workshops for children. In the village of Urzano, the Casa-Museo di Bruno Bricoli, known as Colibri, can also be visited by reservation.
