About the museum
The museum is housed in part of the former industrial complex of Le Ciminiere, north-east of Catania Centrale station, and is dedicated to the historical events between 10 July and 8 September 1943, from the Allied landing in Sicily to the armistice. It is run by the Metropolitan City of Catania.
The exhibition spans three floors covering around 3,000 square metres. It includes period objects, military maps, models and dioramas, weapons and uniforms, as well as life-size figures of the protagonists, among them Roosevelt, Churchill, Victor Emmanuel III, Mussolini and Hitler. There are also testimonies and donations from citizens who lived through those events.
An immersive area recreates a village square, an air-raid shelter, a bunker and the Cassibile tent where the armistice was signed on 3 September 1943, with installations and interactive simulations that evoke the atmosphere of war.
