High-mountain fortress from the First World War on the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni, open to visitors on a signposted route, with a museum of original finds.
Created with MeVe (Memoriale Veneto della Grande Guerra) in the rooms of the Officers' Mess, the exhibition explores how faith and diet help us understand the conflicts of every era. It can be visited throughout 2026.
About the museum
Forte di Punta Corbin is a typical Italian high-mountain fortress built before the First World War on the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni, at Treschè Conca, a hamlet of Roana. During the conflict of 1915–1918 it was hit by Austrian artillery, which caused only limited damage; it was instead the scavengers, active for decades after the war, who dismantled it and reduced it to a heap of rubble.
The state put the fort up for sale, and in 1942 it was bought by Emilio Panozzo, a farmer from Treschè Conca. From the 1980s his son Severino devoted decades to its restoration: clearing the rubble, freeing the area from vegetation, rebuilding the destroyed parts and making the fortress safe, using his own resources and without public funding. In the 1990s the fort was already an almost entirely visitable open-air museum and was recognised as a historical-military museum by the Soprintendenza di Verona.
Today the Panozzo family runs the fort and the museum. The visit has two parts: a practical one, the route through the fortress with arrows, numbers and explanations, and a more documentary one, with original finds from the fort, period photographs and documents collected through donations and research.
