About the museum

The Loelle nuraghe stands on a granite outcrop of the Buddusò plateau, on Monte Acuto, along the road linking Buddusò and Bitti, among cork oaks and holm oaks. It is a monument of mixed type, with features of both corridor nuraghi and tholos nuraghi, and is thought to be a proto-nuraghe reworked in several phases. The central tower has a trilobed bastion built against it, and around it the circular huts of the village can be seen.

The entrance does not lead to a courtyard or a central hall: a staircase winds clockwise around the tower up to the second level, and a ramp climbs to the third, where the main chamber is. On the eastern side, a room with a tholos roof was built into a natural cavity, sunk about one metre below the ground surface.

A short distance away there is a giants' tomb, whose corridor courses and traces of the exedra can still be recognised, a second tomb and a small dolmen hidden among the oaks. Further on, on the road towards Buddusò, lies the necropolis of Ludurru, of the late Neolithic period, with six tombs cut into the rock.
