About the museum
Nuraghe Santu Antine, also called “sa domo de su re” (the king’s house), is one of the most majestic nuragic complexes in Sardinia and the cornerstone of the settlement system of the Valle dei Nuraghi. It dates to the 15th century BC and stands on the plain of Cabu Abbas, in the Meilogu, where more than thirty nuraghi are found.
The plan is an equilateral triangle with three side towers about 42 metres apart and, at the centre, the circular keep, whose original height exceeded 25 metres (17.5 metres remain today). From the courtyard one enters the tholos-vaulted chambers of the keep, the two monumental corridors linking the side towers and, by a spiral staircase, the upper floors. Inside there are silos and two wells. The regularity of the measurements suggests a unified design.
At the foot of the nuraghe extends the Nuragic village, only partly excavated: in the 2nd century BC the huts were modified by the Romans and a rustic villa was set up over the southern structures. Finds from the excavations are displayed in the Museo della Valle dei Nuraghi del Logudoro-Meilogu, in the centre of Torralba. The site is run by the Comune di Torralba.
