About the museum

The civic museum of Torralba has an archaeological and ethnographic character and is located in the centre of the village, on Via Carlo Felice, a few minutes from the Santu Antine nuraghe, the great nuragic complex that dominates the valley. It is where most of the finds from the excavations of the monument are kept.

The archaeological section illustrates the nuraghe in its various phases of the Middle Bronze Age and the Iron Age by means of a model, and devotes a room to the materials from the excavation of the fortress and of some huts of the village. Among the most notable objects are limestone projectiles, spinning tools (pinze fusorie), a fragment of a nuraghe model and a small bronze figurine of a dog, dating to the Bronze Age and to the Roman imperial period. The ancient settlement is also explained through information panels and photographs of the prehistoric monuments of the area.

Another section is dedicated to the Roman and medieval periods, with evidence from the Logudoro-Meilogu and some Roman milestones of the 3rd–4th century AD. The museum shows the construction features of the Santu Antine nuraghe well and offers an important testimony to the material culture of Nuragic civilisation; it also occasionally hosts exhibitions and conferences.
