About the museum
The museum in Thiesi is dedicated to the painter Aligi Sassu (1912–2000), who spent part of his childhood in Thiesi. It was created on the initiative of the Comune and the Fondazione Sassu, thanks to works donated by the artist’s widow and adopted son.
The collection comprises around 120 works made between 1929 and 1995 using etching, aquatint, drypoint and lithography. Recurring themes are social reality, myth, the sacred and the profane, horses and subjects drawn from literature, such as the series inspired by Orlando furioso and the Apocalisse, as well as five lithographs from the homage to Sardinia.
The works are spread across four exhibition rooms. The regional portal reports that the museum is closed for renovation and re-display work, with no reopening date given.
