About the museum
The museum in Siligo is dedicated to Maria Carta, an interpreter of Sardinian folk music, musicologist, poet and actress, born in Siligo in 1934 and died in Rome in 1994. It is located in Via Aldo Moro and is linked to the Fondazione Maria Carta.
Two rooms, each of about 90 square metres, retrace her life from her birth to her move to Rome in 1958, where she studied at the Centro di studi di musica popolare of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia. One section is devoted to her career as a singer and her research into traditional Sardinian music, another to poetry, in particular the collection “Canto rituale” of 1975, and others to theatre and cinema and to her political commitment as a municipal councillor in Rome between the late 1970s and early 1980s. In 1990–91 the University of Bologna entrusted her with a course on methods of collecting songs.
Stage costumes, awards, photographs, a press review, manuscripts, films and musical tracks are on display. A monitor shows music and images in continuous sequence.
