About the museum

Palazzo Bracci Pagani stands in the historic centre of Fano, at the corner of Corso Matteotti and via Arco d’Augusto, and combines two residential and commercial buildings dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. The name recalls the two owners, Diana Bracci and her husband Arnolfo Pagani, an innovator in agriculture. In 1923 Countess Bracci donated the property to the Congregazione di Carità, so that an agricultural school named after her husband could be housed there. In 1871 the actor Ruggero Ruggeri was born here.

After years as a seat of municipal offices, the palace was put up for sale at public auction, and in 2011 it was bought by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Fano. The Foundation restored it between 2013 and 2015 and now uses it as a cultural and museum centre.

On the second floor is the Museo di Scienze Naturali, run in collaboration with the Circolo Culturale “G. Castellani”. It displays fossils and minerals that illustrate ancient geological eras and, in the Saletta delle Collezioni, archaeological finds and ancient coins minted by the Zecca di Fano. On the first floor is the Diana Art Gallery, a space for modern and contemporary art with exhibitions curated by the Foundation. The complex also includes the Spazio Espositivo Pagani and the Corte del Nespolo, which are used for exhibitions and meetings.
