PAV Parco Arte Vivente – Centro sperimentale d'arte contemporanea
Contemporary art centre in Turin with an interactive museum and a 23,000 m² park with permanent installations devoted to the dialogue between art and nature.
Curated by Marco Scotini, the exhibition traces Piero Gilardi's work from the 1970s to the 2000s, from the artistic object to social and participatory work: health centres, the atelier in the Aurora neighbourhood, masks and floats for Turin's Primo Maggio.
For Artissima 2026 the park hosts a monumental sculpture by the French artist Marie Denis, inspired by the heart-shaped leaf of the Alocasia, enlarged until it becomes an ambiguous figure between flower, leaf and spider.
About the museum
Parco Arte Vivente grew out of an idea by the artist Piero Gilardi, who devised the first project in 2002. After several possible locations, the centre found its permanent home in Via Giordano Bruno, on the site of a former industrial plant; it was built in 2008 by the architects Gianluca Cosmacini and Alessandro Fassi. In 2010 the building received the Architetture Rivelate award from the Order of Architects of Turin.
PAV comprises an outdoor exhibition site and an interactive museum, conceived as a place of encounter and experimentation between art and nature, biotechnology and ecology. The artistic programme, directed by Gilardi until February 2023, focuses on art of the living: bioart, biotech art, transgenic and ecological art. The centre is currently directed by Enrico Bonanate.
The park covers about 23,000 m² and since 2008 has hosted permanent and semi-permanent installations, including Trèfle by Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster (2006) and the Jardin Mandala designed by the landscape architect Gilles Clément (2010). In the museum is Bioma, an interactive environmental work by Gilardi, which invites visitors to explore natural elements with digital tools.
