About the museum
The museum traces the history of Turin vermouth from 1786, the year in which Benedetto Carpano developed and patented the drink in his shop in Piazza Castello, Turin. The account runs up to today’s production, now entrusted to the Branca distilleries in Milan.
The exhibition is on the first floor of the Eataly store in Turin Lingotto, in the rooms of the former archive of the factory’s documents. Many objects found in the plant are on display, along with evidence of vermouth’s use from the 19th century onwards.
An important part of the route is devoted to advertising: Armando Testa’s post-war posters show the “Re Vermouth” (“King Vermouth”) alongside figures from the Savoy period, such as Cavour and Victor Emmanuel II. The visit ends with six scent stations (olfattori), each with one of the main herbs used in vermouth recipes.
