About the museum

The Pinacoteca civica “Marco Moretti” was founded in 1975 thanks to Luciano Moretti, who named it after his son. It is housed in Civitanova Alta, in the house once owned by the family of Annibal Caro, commemorated by an 18th-century Latin inscription translated in 1943 by Salvatore Quasimodo. It was officially inaugurated in 1998 and fully resumed its exhibition and educational activities in December 2002.

The old collection includes furnishings and canvases from the 16th and 18th centuries, recovered from the municipal storerooms and restored, among them a Madonna del Soccorso attributed to Baldo de’ Sarofini. The modern art gallery brings together works by 20th-century artists such as Severini, Tulli, Ciarrocchi, Accardi and Quaglia; the Sala Ciarrocchi is dedicated to Arnoldo Ciarrocchi, and the collection has been enriched by works by the Futurist painter Leandra Angelucci Cominazzini.

The gallery also runs a copperplate engraving workshop, training courses and competitions for schools of all levels.
