About the museum
The museum grew out of the passion of Don Eugenio De Angelis (Potenza Picena 1933 – Morrovalle 2005), assistant parish priest of San Bartolomeo in Morrovalle, a great lover of art and photography and devoted to the nativity scene, which he regarded as an important sign of Christianity. Together with some friends he began collecting nativity scenes to display at Christmas in a deconsecrated church.
His dream was to create a museum-picture gallery devoted solely to the nativity scene, with works from every part of the world. In the 1980s he acquired the premises where over 800 nativity scenes, made from the most varied materials from the most precious to the humblest, are now displayed; a few years later he acquired a second room for the picture gallery, with about 150 paintings.
Because of the museum, Morrovalle is known as “the town of a thousand nativity scenes”. The museum is located beside the church of San Bartolomeo Apostolo.
