About the museum
The gallery opened on 13 November 2005 in the Palazzo Ricci in Monte San Martino and originates from the donation of Mgr. Armindo Ricci, who left his paintings and other goods for the creation of a Monte di Carità (charitable lending institution). The Monte was abolished in 1929 and its assets passed to the Municipality; the building is owned by the Curia of Fermo.
The palace houses about forty-six works, including paintings, bas-reliefs, furnishings and sacred vestments from the 17th century, along with a collection of books from the same century. Religious subjects predominate, such as Saint Catherine, Saint Mary Magdalene and Saint Sebastian, as well as portraits, including those of Mgr. Ricci and of Pope Clement IX Rospigliosi; there are also landscapes and still lifes.
Among the valuable works is an oil-on-copper Crucifixion in a gilded frame, of uncertain attribution but attributed in the 18th century to Guido Reni, and two small wooden bas-reliefs, The Rest during the Flight into Egypt and The Adoration of the Shepherds. One section hosts temporary exhibitions of contemporary art, and the ticket also gives access to the nearby church of San Martino Vescovo with the polyptychs by the Crivelli brothers.
