About the museum
The civic picture gallery of San Severino Marche was established in 1974 and is named after Father Pietro Tacchi Venturi, a local scholar of the history of religions. Its collections come partly from the municipal residence, where works from religious orders were gathered after the suppressions, and partly from the Chapter of Canons and the Diocese of San Severino.
It is located on the first floor of Palazzo Manuzzini, a building commissioned by the Manuzzi family, with Gothic traces and a remnant of an 11th-century tower in the courtyard. The route is spread over six rooms arranged chronologically, documenting the painting and sacred art of the area from the 14th to the 17th century.
In the first rooms one encounters the Madonna dell'Umiltà by Allegretto Nuzi, a polyptych by Paolo Veneziano, sacred goldsmiths' work, including a reliquary of 1326, and 14th-century frescoes from the church of San Francesco. Then come the works of the brothers Lorenzo and Jacopo Salimbeni, the polyptych of Vittore Crivelli and that of Alunno of 1468 for the Duomo Vecchio. In the last room are displayed canvases from the circle of Pomarancio, 17th-century Bolognese miniatures, cartographic globes and a large wooden choir of 1513.
According to the municipality's page, the building is currently closed for restoration works following the earthquake.
