About the museum
The Museo del Territorio in San Severino Marche, named after Oberdan Poleti, consists of three parts: a farmhouse, a botanical garden and the exhibition hall itself, of about 300 square metres. It forms part of a museum route devoted to the peasant, craft and proto-industrial civilisation of central Marche, together with the Museo degli Attrezzi Agricoli in Sefro and a facility in Treia.
The farmhouse, with its threshing yard and a shed holding a biroccio (a light two-wheeled cart), has the traditional covered external staircase. On the inhabited floor the interiors are reconstructed with furniture and objects from the early 20th century, while the ground floor contains the stable with mangers, yokes and bits, a cellar and a room with a loom. In the area between the house and the museum a botanical garden has been created, presenting the typical plants of the territory.
The exhibition hall holds objects from rural life, craft and early industry, including a large 19th-century wooden press, farm tools and printing presses, as well as sections on leisure, associations and public assistance, with an early 20th-century hand-operated stretcher ambulance.
