About the museum
The museum is located in Stia, in the Casentino, in the Palagio fiorentino, a thirteenth-century building once owned by the Counts Guidi and rebuilt in 1908 in a medievalising style by Giuseppe Castellucci. It was founded to promote contemporary art in a small foothill town, giving it a prestigious home.
The original core is the donation of fifty-three paintings and ten sculptures by Vicky Galati Indelli, made in memory of her father, Americo Francesco Galati. Over time the collection was enriched with further works donated to the Comune di Stia, which has since merged into the municipality of Pratovecchio Stia.
The collection comprises about two hundred works in sculpture, painting and prints by artists from Tuscany or who lived there for long periods, including Pietro Annigoni, Giò Pomodoro, Ottone Rosai, Marino Marini, Quinto Martini and Pietro Parigi.
