About the museum
Spazio Ilisso was inaugurated in December 2019 on the initiative of the publishing house Ilisso, which wished to turn thirty-five years of research, publishing and art exhibitions into a place open to the public.
The seat is Casa Papandrea, a complex combining a 19th-century courtyard house with a well and an early 20th-century wing in Liberty style, surrounded by gardens with two cedars of Lebanon. The Papandrea family bought the property in 1884 and ran an inn there for visitors to the nearby prison. In 2001 the building hosted an exhibition dedicated to Costantino Nivola; it was later bought by Ilisso to create the museum.
On the ground floor and in the gardens the permanent collection of Sardinian 20th-century sculpture and ceramics is displayed, while the first floor is reserved for temporary exhibitions. The Archive of Applied Arts allows the consultation of documents on applied arts and photographic archives.
