About the museum
The Tomba dei giganti di Moru (giants’ tomb) is located in Arzachena, on the western edge of the plain, about two hundred metres from the Albucciu nuraghe, with which it was linked as a burial area. It is a collective burial built in two phases: a more ancient funerary gallery of the Middle Bronze Age (around the 18th–16th centuries BC) was later extended in the Late Bronze Age with the exedra, the space in front of the tomb reserved for rituals, and the earth-and-stone mound enclosing the long corridor.
Unlike the nearby tombs of Li Lolghi and Coddu Vecchiu, here the facade is almost straight and the exedra was not built of wide upright slabs with a large stele: it was probably built of roughly hewn blocks and a central stele. The corridor, about nine metres long, still preserves one of the slabs that covered it; the dead were placed in it from above.
The materials found in the exedra and the corridor span a long period: small bowls, shallow dishes and miniature vessels, a cup, a dagger and an amber vessel. In the Punic age (around 300–264 BC) the place continued to be frequented, as shown by a stele with a Punic sign and a coin with the head of Tanit. The tomb is part of the Parco Archeologico di Arzachena, managed by the municipal company Ge.Se.Co.
