About the museum
The Torchio di Cerido is a small museum of winemaking and oil production in the hamlet of Cerido, on the Costiera dei Cech above Morbegno. It is housed in a well-preserved rural building, believed to date from the 16th century, which holds a 17th-century lever press with the olive mill attached. The equipment was rediscovered around 1980 and saved thanks to the commitment of Giacomo Perego, who oversaw the restoration of the entire complex.
Armando Alberti and the Margnelli brothers donated the press and the mill to the municipality of Morbegno, which made it into a museum. In the past the machinery was made available for a fee to families who did not own one, and pressing was also a communal occasion of work, conviviality, food and wine.
The route includes the press, the stone millstone of the mill, tools for crushing, fermentation and bottling, objects of rural life such as baskets, vats, casks and utensils, as well as illustrative panels and reconstructed settings.
