About the museum
The Ainažu Ugunsdzēsības muzejs is housed in a building that the Ainaži town council gave to the Ainaži Volunteer Firefighters’ Society free of charge and for lifelong use in 1928. The museum opened in December 1991, on the society’s 65th anniversary, but the official founding date in the documents is 15 January 1992. The founders and creators of the museum are Ilga and Osvalds Bērziņi.
The mission of the museum is to deepen public understanding of the work and traditions of the Ainaži Volunteer Firefighters’ Society. The exhibition “Spožas pogas, ķiveres” (Shiny Buttons, Helmets) presents the society’s work, focusing on its heyday from its founding in 1926 until the beginning of the Second World War, and gives an insight into the town’s history. It also shows firefighting equipment – hand pumps, motorised pumps and nozzles.
