About the museum
The building at Zigfrīda Meierovica prospekts 20, where the poet Aspazija (1865–1943) lived from 1933 to 1943, was transferred to the property of the Jūrmala Museum in 1987. The house was opened to visitors as a memorial to the poet in 1996, and in 2000 an exhibition hall was opened in the museum's rooms.
In November 2012 reconstruction and restoration work began, and afterwards the museum opened to visitors on 3 October 2014. In 2016 the interactive exhibition “Aspazija atgriežas Dubultos” (Aspazija Returns to Dubulti) was opened. The two-storey wooden summer house was built in 1903 and is a state-protected architectural and historical monument.
The renovated exhibition includes a spacious dining room and a drawing room with a decorated tiled stove and an antique radio, on which the poet's own voice can be heard, as well as a study where several of the writer's original pieces of furniture are preserved. The house hosts a readers' club and holds masterclasses, lectures and concerts.
