About the museum
The Džūkste Fairy Tale Museum is located in the former Lanciņi School building, where the teacher, writer, collector and researcher of fairy tales and legends Ansis Lerhis-Puškaitis (1859–1903) lived and worked. The museum is a unit of the Tukums Museum.
The museum's exhibition themes are rooted in legends and fairy tales, including those that Lerhis-Puškaitis wrote down or composed himself. Just as the teacher used folk oral tradition to develop his pupils' imagination, the museum offers not only objects to look at but also the chance to listen to the Džūkste fairy tales, tell your own and take part in puppet theatre performances.
Children's birthdays can be celebrated at the museum. In the surroundings an open-air exhibition, “Pa Pasaku tēva pēdām” (In the Footsteps of the Fairy-Tale Father), has been created, where orienteering games for families also take place.
