About the museum

The restored native home of Kārlis Ulmanis, “Pikšas”, received museum status on 22 December 1993. In 1980, during drainage works, the old Zemgale farmstead was destroyed – the living house and several farm buildings were demolished – but in summer 1989, with public participation, the restoration of “Pikšas” began. Later the living house and the granary were rebuilt anew, similar to the historical ones.

The museum was accredited in 2018, and in the same year the site of Ulmanis’s native home “Pikšas” was included in the list of state-protected cultural monuments (No. 9259). The museum’s mission is to promote love of homeland and work, creating the Zemgale farmstead “Pikšas” as a monument of the National Awakening period to Kārlis Ulmanis (1877–1942).
