About the museum
The fisherman-farmer's farmstead “Vītolnieki” is the rural exhibition of the Latvijas Etnogrāfiskais brīvdabas muzejs (Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum) in the Ķoņi village of Rucava parish, in Pape. It illustrates local building, farming and everyday traditions. The museum preserves, researches and promotes a typical fisherman-farmer's farmstead of a coastal village.
The farmstead has preserved the dwelling house, the cowshed, stable and barn under one roof, a pigsty, a cellar, a smithy, a sauna, a summer kitchen and a granary. Alongside the architectural features, visitors can see the fisherman's tools, clothing and farming equipment, as well as a fragment of a boat more than a thousand years old.
