About the museum
The Rucava Centre Mill was built in 1937, and until the 1960s it was an important grain-processing place for the farmers of the Rucava area (then Paurupe). Electricity generated by a steam traction engine supplied not only the mill but also part of the village, which is why the place was called the “Palace of Light” (gaismas pils). Later the building housed a warehouse of a mechanical workshop, which operated until the 1990s.
After the reconstruction of the building in 2020, an exhibition was set up there that allows visitors to get to know the cultural heritage of Rucava municipality. The extensive collection of musical instruments of the folk musician Jānis Pūķis is also on display there.
