About the museum
The owner of the Bijotai (Bardžiai) manor, the writer Dionizas Poška, set up a museum in 1812 inside the trunks of the thousand-year-old oaks, the Baubliai, which is considered the oldest in Lithuania. In it he placed archaeological finds, historical and ethnographic material, images of ancient gods, portraits of famous people and a small library of more than 200 books.
The museum, now on the Bijotai manor estate, is a branch of the Šilalės Vlado Statkevičiaus muziejus (Šilalė Vladas Statkevičius Museum) and is regarded as a unique national historical monument. In the manor park, beside the pond, the Poška water mill has been rebuilt and adapted for visitors; the Norbertas Paškevičius Park in the centre of Bijotai can also be visited.
The museum has exhibition halls and a conference hall, and guides can be booked.
