About the museum
The Balninkai Glass Museum is based on a collection of 367 glass objects gathered by a family, which in 2001 was donated by former Balninkai resident and glass technologist Kazys Strazdas. Most of the objects on display were made after 1972, when the production of art glass was revived in Lithuania. The museum opened on 8 November 2002; it was opened by President Valdas Adamkus. Shards from 17th–19th-century glass manufactories are also shown nearby.
The picture gallery began in 1998, when Vladas Miškinis, a painter and teacher at the Balninkai secondary school, donated 160 paintings. The gallery was later supplemented by graphic works by Onutė Pusvaškytė (40 works) and lithographs and silkscreen prints by Stasys Aukštuolis. In the same building is the Balninkai Local Life Museum, with 18th–20th-century tools and household objects, and the Partisan Museum of the B Unit of the Didžiosios Kovos apygarda, with an authentically arranged partisan hideout. In 2016 the museum was transferred to the public institution “Kaimynystės namai”.
