About the museum
The first written sources on Burbiškis manor date from the 17th century. It was held by various families, and in 1819 the manor became the property of the Baženskis family. Under their rule the estate was extended, new buildings were erected and the park began to take shape.
Mykolas Baženskis, a landowner with romantic inclinations who admired the poetry of Adam Mickiewicz, wished to decorate the park with sculptures. In 1910 he met the sculptor Kazimieras Ulianskis, who in 1912 erected a monument to Vytautas the Great in the middle of the park – the first such monument in Lithuania. The park also contains a monument to Adam Mickiewicz; the roughly 28-hectare park is adorned with artificial ponds with islands and bridges. Every spring a tulip festival takes place here.
Now the Burbiškio dvaro istorijos skyrius (Burbiškis Manor History Department) of the Daugyvenės kultūros istorijos muziejus-draustinis (Daugyvenė Cultural History Museum-Reserve) operates in the manor estate. It offers the educational programmes “Mada dvare” (Fashion at the Manor), “Plunksnos raštas” (The Feather Pattern), “Margaspalvė tulpė” (Multicoloured Tulip) and others, and tours in Lithuanian, English and Russian.
