About the museum
The site of the Pakruojis manor is first mentioned in written sources in 1531. The manor was held by several nobles; in 1786, when the countess Aleksandra Miunsteryte married Wilhelm von Ropas, it passed to the Ropai family as her dowry. The brick palace complex was built in 1817–1840 from local materials, and in 1835–1840 an English-style park was planted. The main accent of the ensemble is the two-storey palace with a portico and Doric columns.
After the Second World War a Soviet farm operated on the manor, and later an agricultural technical school. Today the reconstructed buildings house a hotel, restaurants, halls for events, the manor farm with animals, collections and the punishment cellar; thematic tours and educational programmes are held.
