About the museum
The Kleboniškių kaimo buities muziejus (Kleboniškiai Village Life Museum) was established in the beautiful valley of the Daugyvenė River, on an old village site. Typical 19th- and early 20th-century village buildings are brought here from the surrounding area: cottages (gryčios), granaries (klėtys), bathhouses (pirtys), threshing barns (klojimai), barns (daržinės) and other farm buildings.
The village has 28 buildings, 18 of which belong to the museum; eleven buildings were moved from other places in order to recreate the old street village. Next to the surviving outbuildings, former homesteads are being reconstructed. Old trees and straw roofs give the place authenticity.
The buildings house exhibitions recreating the household life of farmers at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, showing Lithuanian ethnic culture and the landscape of the street-and-strip village. The museum holds educational sessions, for example “Lino kelias” (The Flax Road), and tours in Lithuanian, English and Russian. It is a branch of the Daugyvenės kultūros istorijos muziejus-draustinis (Daugyvenė Cultural History Museum-Reserve).
