About the museum
The writer Marija Pečkauskaitė, known by the pen name Šatrijos Ragana, spent the last fifteen years of her life in Židikai. The museum exhibition begins with the story of the childhood and youth of the landowner's daughter. Photographs, documents and notes from family members and friends are displayed, as well as documents and notes from beekeeping courses in Warsaw. A separate display case is devoted to her studies in Switzerland and her teaching practice at the Marijampolė girls' progymnasium.
The second room shows objects that Marija Pečkauskaitė used: furniture, an instrument, the writing desk at which the novella “Sename dvare” (In the Old Manor) was created, and pedagogical books that she translated. The exhibition ends with the writer's personal furniture and travel accessories. At visitors' request, the tour guide accompanies them to the writer's grave in Židikai and admits them to the chapel. The museum is a branch of the Mažeikiai Museum.
