About the museum
The exhibition of the technical heritage and ethnic culture of the 19th–20th centuries was set up in the open air at the Tradicinių amatų centras (Traditional Crafts Centre). It displays engines, agricultural machinery, cars, motorcycles, brikas (light carriages), the tools used by village craftsmen and household objects – made in Lithuania and abroad and collected by Juozapas Liekis from various places in Lithuania. Some quite rare mechanisms can also be seen; most of the machinery has been repaired, restored and is in working order.
The exhibition has recently been supplemented with the work tools and products of craftsmen from the Kaunas region, weaving looms and the flax-processing tools used in linen-making. Visitors can also get to know the ethnic heritage of the region and the renewed outdoor exhibition of old technology.
The centre is one of five branches of the Kauno rajono muziejus; the collections are looked after by the curator Juozapas Liekis.
