About the museum
For a long time the mining industry was the lifeblood of Ballangen, and mining history is therefore the main theme of the museum. The collection gives an insight into the local community’s heyday, but also into farming culture, school and household life.
The museum is housed in the former administration building of the mining company Bjørkaasen Gruber. It is a dignified building from 1919 that is worth a visit in itself. Bjørkaasen Gruber was the most important company in Ballangen for more than fifty years.
In the museum one can, among other things, study the old control panel from Bjørkåsen power station and other objects from Ballangen’s electrical history. The museum is part of Museum Nord.
