About the museum
Dagali Museum lies in the middle of the mountain village of Dagali. In the museum grounds stand buildings and objects from Dagali, Skurdalen, Tunhovd and Uvdal, and much of what is preserved belongs to the Numedal tradition, as Dagali was part of Uvdal municipality until 1944.
The museum is built up as an old farm with nine farm buildings from Dagali, most of them from the 18th and 19th centuries, and the old schoolroom from Dagali is also here. It began as a private collection: the teacher and ensign (fanejunker) Gunnar Stensen (1870–1970) began collecting objects around 1900 and buildings from 1920, and built up the collection on his farm, Fagerlund.
In 1947 Stensen bequeathed the whole museum to the village, and Dagali Museumsforening (Dagali Museum Association) was founded to run it. Each summer art by recognised artists is shown in the Kjønnaas stabbur (storehouse), and Museum Day during Dagali-dagan in mid-July, with an outdoor service, refreshments and open houses, has become an established tradition. The museum association owns the museum, which is run by Hallingdal Museum.
