About the museum
Hol bygdemuseum was founded on 8 November 1914. Hol municipality owns the museum, and Hallingdal Museum runs it. The museum lies by National Road 7 (riksvei 7) at Hagafoss and is laid out as an old Hol farm.
On the site stand 17 buildings, most from the 1700s and 1800s, including a cotter's farm and a støl (mountain summer farm). An exhibition building shows rosemaled objects and folk costumes from Øvre Hallingdal. Each summer the Holsdagen (Hol Day) is held, where a rural wedding in Øvre Hallingdal in the 1800s is recreated. Hallingdal Museum is also responsible for Hol gamle kyrkje (the old Hol church), Dokken Fjellgard and Nord-Hovet gamle skule (the old school).
