About the museum
Fredheim was built by the parents of the writer Ingeborg Refling Hagen in the 1890s. Hagen lived there permanently from 1944 until her death in 1989. Many young people lived at Fredheim for shorter or longer periods, immersing themselves in literature, art and theatre, and they helped to start and carry out a major theatre and cultural undertaking.
After Hagen's death the house was for some years run as Ingeborgmuseet, but in recent years it stood uninhabited for long periods and fell into disrepair. In spring 2015 former pupils and friends of Ingeborg founded the association Ingeborg Refling Hagens kulturhus Fredheim, which bought the property in July the same year. With support from, among others, Stange municipality, Kulturminnefondet (the Cultural Heritage Fund) and local savings banks, the house has been saved and restored.
The interior is unique: the house is full of art and has been decorated throughout by artists with connections to the place. Today Fredheim runs as an open cultural centre with exhibitions, readings, concerts and other events.
