About the museum
Stenneset friluftsmuseum (open-air museum) lies with a view over the town of Mo i Rana, eight kilometres along County Road 12 (fv. 12) from the town centre. The historic buildings on the farmstead have been brought to the open-air museum from all over Rana, and visitors can walk between eighteen buildings from the period 1750 to 1890. The white rectory (prestegård), built in the 1780s, stands on its original site and is the main house.
There is a restaurant in the rectory, and in front of it is an English garden with flowers and perennials. At events such as the traditional Stennesdagen, the houses are filled with activities for children, and there is a market and demonstrations of craft traditions.
The outdoor areas are open all year and are the starting point for walking trails up to Båsmolia and Båsmomarka, which suit children from the age of four. The open-air museum can offer guided tours on request; arrangements are made with Rana museum.
