About the museum
Hemsedal bygdatun is the farm Øvre Løkji in Ulsåk. The farm has probably been inhabited since the Migration Period, and the buildings and objects show what life on a farm in Hemsedal was like from the 1600s and 1700s up to more recent times. Hemsedal municipality has owned the farm since 1956, and Hallingdal Museum runs it.
On the farmstead stand a stue (main living room), a stable building, two barns (låver), a stall and a smithy from the mid-1600s to 1876. Outside the farmstead a sauna hut (badstuhytte) and a shed from Grøndalen have been set up, as well as a summer dairy hut (stølsbu) from Lykkja. From the farm a historic mountain-pasture path (stølsti) runs up to Skogshorn, with onward routes to Geiteberget, Storhøvda and Skurvefjell.
