About the museum
Holmestrand Museum is the town museum of Holmestrand and is housed in Holstgården, a building from 1756 in the middle of the town centre. The museum is run by volunteers from Holmestrand Museumsforening (the Holmestrand Museum Association), who look after maintenance, administration and exhibition work.
The exhibitions show local history, including seafaring, traditional crafts, art and everyday life. On the museum's website, articles are published about people, events, places and stories from the town “under the mountain” (byen under fjellet), about emigration and about historical pictures.
