About the museum
Kastnes bygdetun lies by Dyrøysundet in Dyrøy and shows how farmers and fishers lived in the district. The farmstead consists of a farmhouse (våningshus), a cowshed and a hunting cabin (jaktbu). The farmhouse was moved here from Lasletta in 1989 and was a gift from Torbjørn Johansen. The cowshed came a few years later from Kastneshamn, and the hunting cabin was moved from Kvalnes on the other side of the fjord. In the main house there is an interior display in every room.
The surroundings are a varied cultural landscape with older cultural monuments, including Viking Age grave finds, and a culture trail (kultursti) that can be walked all year round. The museum is run by Midt-Troms Museum and is open on special occasions in summer.
