About the museum
Norsk skieventyr in Morgedal shows the history of skiing and polar expeditions from around 4,000 years ago to today’s snowboarding and twintip. The museum is designed as a multimedia journey with three-screen films and interactive exhibitions.
Morgedal is known as the cradle of skiing. The first ski competitions were held here in the 1850s, and the place is linked to the ski pioneer Sondre Norheim. The exhibitions also tell the story of Olav Bjaaland, who took part in the race to the South Pole, of Norway’s first ski wax factory, and of the history of the Olympic flame.
In summer 2025 a ski simulator opened, where visitors can ride a virtual course in the style of Sondre Norheim. Outside the museum lies Vassparken, a 45-metre copy of the Morgedal river for children, and a short distance away is Øverbø, the birthplace of Sondre Norheim.
