About the museum
Sagstua old school was built in 1856 and stands at Sand in Nord-Odal, where it has always stood. The school became a museum in 1988. Equipment from old schools in both Nord-Odal and Sør-Odal has been collected here, and one classroom is furnished in the old style. The contrast with today's school provides good history teaching both for those who went to school of the old type themselves and for today's schoolchildren.
The author Sigurd Hoel (1890–1960) grew up at Sagstua school. His father was a teacher, and his mother ran the post office (poståpneriet). Hoel used his childhood here as a motif in the novel “Veien til verdens ende” (The Road to the End of the World). When the museum opened in 1988, a room on the ground floor was dedicated to the author. For the centenary an exhibition was set up on the first floor, which was later renewed. It contains film and an exhibition on Hoel's life and writing.
Sagstua school museum is part of Odalstunet, which is run by Anno museum.
